Compared with Nie Haisheng, who has participated in the Shenzhou 6 and Shenzhou 10 manned missions, and Liu Boming, who has participated in the Shenzhou 7 manned mission, the Shenzhou 12 mission is the first flight of astronaut Tang Hongbo.

"I am very honored and proud to be selected for the Shenzhou 12 mission crew." Tang Hongbo said, first of all, I would like to thank the astronauts instructors and researchers for their dedication, my comrades for help, and my family for their support.

"I was selected as a pilot in 1995 and an astronaut in 2010. Although there is only one word difference between aviation and aerospace, it is a difficult and unforgettable experience to complete this transition. Over the years, I have never slackened because I love flying. . For this reason, I insisted on training with difficulty and strictness, and made all-round preparations from the aspects of mind, body, psychology, technology, etc. The deepest thing I have experienced is that if you want to grow up, you must first take root down. Only ground training is in place. Only in order to be competent for flying missions, I will complete the missions resolutely and satisfactorily. I am worthy of my career and my country.” Tang Hongbo said.

Tang Hongbo said that there must be pressure during the first mission, but he firmly believes that pressure is motivation. After 11 years of study, training and trials, he has completed the arduous and unforgettable transformation from aviation to aerospace. I am rigorous and scientifically selected, and I am full of confidence in myself; I am also very much looking forward to one day being able to travel to the "Temple of Heaven" with astronauts from other countries in the world.

According to reports, Tang Hongbo is now a second-level astronaut of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Astronaut Brigade, with the rank of colonel; he was once the commander of a certain division and regiment of the Air Force Aviation.

In May 2010, Tang Hongbo was selected as the second batch of astronauts in my country; in May 2016, he was selected as the backup astronaut for the Shenzhou 11 mission; in December 2019, he was selected as the crew of the Shenzhou 12 mission.
