The man had not gone unnoticed.

A cyclist was arrested Monday afternoon on the A43 motorway as he was preparing to pass the Saint-Quentin-Fallavier toll in the north of Isère.

Several motorists seeing him pedaling on the emergency lane had reported it to the gendarmes.

The cyclist, who lives in Lyon, had gone to see friends in Villefontaine.

He explained to the bikers that when he left, he had simply followed the directions of his GPS on his phone, without thinking of changing the settings to indicate that he was riding a bicycle and not a car.

The man therefore entered the highway without asking any questions.

He was arrested after four kilometers, reports

And got away with a fine, the amount of which was not disclosed.
