Found guilty of receiving the collection of personal data, Ikea will have to pay a fine of one million euros.

The subsidiary of the Swedish furniture giant, Ikea Retail France, was sentenced on Tuesday, June 15, by the court of Versailles (Yvelines).

The company was accused of having spied on its employees during the 2000s through police or private investigation companies.

The trial of this case, revealed by the press in 2012, ended in early April.

The former CEO of Ikea France, Jean-Louis Baillot, was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 50,000 euros.

Ikea France said it was studying the court's decision and indicated that it would take additional measures if necessary.

"Ikea Retail France has strongly condemned the practices, apologized and put in place an important action plan to prevent this from happening again," the company said in an email to Reuters.
