The village association believes that all investments are made in the central town of Jokkmokk.

So in a letter to the county administrative board, the association has asked the question how they should best go about moving the municipal boundary.

Believe in a better future

Porjus has about 300 inhabitants and is located between the central town of Jokkmokk and central Gällivare, a distance of one kilometer from Gällivare's municipal border.

- There are already many who commute to work to Gällivare and since Gällivare is growing and lacking housing, Porjus is well located, says Denise Magnusson.

The municipal council responds to the criticism

Jokkmokk's municipal councilor, Robert Bernhardsson (S), is aware of the dissatisfaction in Porjus:

- I think it is sad that they feel that the municipality does not contribute to better service, but the service increases in line with investments in the area.

For example, there will be a major investment in data centers and today we have decided in the council to set aside ten million kroner to clean up old properties and we have also made plans to increase the buildings in connection with the expansion in Gällivare.

The Municipal Council further notes that lower tax revenues also affect the possibility of what can be offered to municipal residents.

- It is a deteriorating service compared to before when the inhabitants were more.

Sure it is.

The village association continues

The village association in Porjus is now working further to investigate and produce a proposal to apply for a change of municipality.

In the end, it is the Chamber of Deputies that decides whether there will be a relocation of the municipal boundary and where the new boundary will end up.

In the clip, you hear the village association's chairman and Porjus residents about the proposal.
