• The regional elections take place on June 20 and 27.

  • In Brittany, the head of the lists are trying to capture the young electorate which has particularly suffered from the health crisis.

  • The candidates bring up proposals to help the mobility or integration of young people into the labor market.

Social life dormant, finances at half mast, studies turned upside down ... Silent victims of the health crisis, young people have been in trouble for over a year. Financial aid has of course been released to help them overcome the crisis. But they seem very thin as the precariousness of young people is increasing. While they are enjoying their new-found freedom, one suspects that the regional elections, which will be held on June 20 and 27, are far from being their priority. In Brittany, the candidates have yet proposals to improve their future.

Some are thus promising a little financial boost for the region to help them make ends meet.

Outgoing Socialist President Loïg Chesnais-Girard, for example, mentions the creation of an “unlimited Breizhgo” pass which will allow all young people under 30 to travel at reduced prices on the entire Breton transport network (train, bus , boats).

Head of the list of rebellious France, Pierre-Yves Cadalen offers free TER for those under 25 when the ecologist Claire Desmares-Poirrier campaigns for "free regional transport for scholarship students".

Youth employment requires training

Made even more complicated by the crisis, the integration of young people into the labor market is also at the heart of the candidates' priorities.

This notably involves training, with the creation of a plan desired by David Cabas (Debout la France) for young people who have left school without a diploma.

LR candidate Isabelle Le Callennec proposes to “massively develop work-study programs” and to establish “a merit scholarship for young work-study students”.

Ditto for Gilles Pennelle (National Gathering) who intends to award "merit scholarships to reward the talents of tomorrow" and enhance manual and professional sectors.

On the issue of training, Loïg Chesnais-Girard proposes for his part to create "a regional network of welcoming companies to facilitate the search for internships" while the environmental candidate Claire Desmares-Poirrier wishes to focus "on the sectors of the future, creating sustainable jobs ”.

Leader of the Brittany my life list, Daniel Cueff finally mentions “the free enrollment in the first year after initial training under conditions of resources”.

Organic on the plates of high school students

Yet among the major concerns among young people, the issue of housing is not often mentioned by candidates. Isabelle Le Callennec intends to "promote housing for young people", without however making any concrete proposal on the subject. Loïg Chesnais-Girard promises to invest 50 million euros in university accommodation in order to respond in particular to the challenge of thermal renovation.

Competence of the regions, high schools are also the object of attention during this campaign. Unsurprisingly, Claire Desmares-Poirrier offers "organic and local meals in restaurants, with a vegetarian option at each meal", as does Pierre-Yves Cadalen. Candidate supported by LREM, Modem and UDI, Thierry Burlot insists more on the digital divide and proposes to provide a tablet or a computer to young people who do not have one. Gilles Pennelle, for his part, wants to reduce the cost of the start of the new school year, notably with “the real free access to textbooks”.

Finally, Loïg Chesnais-Girard mentions "a participatory budget per high school to promote the creativity and commitment of young people".

An idea more or less similar to that of Thierry Burlot who campaigns for "financial aid of 150 to 500 euros to allow the participation of high school students in a collective project" with support from the region of 400,000 euros to support a thousand projects per year.
