Gu Zhongpeng said that in 2021, students from 491 junior high schools in Guangzhou will sign up for the high school entrance examination, with a total of 90,544 high school entrance examination candidates, including 1,898 social candidates; about 12,500 examiners of various types; 156 test centers are planned to be arranged.
Regardless of the number of schools involved, the number of test points, the number of candidates, and the number of test administrators, it far exceeds the number of college entrance examinations in the past.
Gu Zhongpeng explained that the decision to postpone the high school entrance examination was mainly based on two considerations. First, the number of high school entrance examination candidates was large, and more than 60% were day students.
The senior high school entrance examination involves 491 junior high schools. Due to the limitations of school buildings and other hardware, most junior high schools do not have the conditions for centralized management of residential schools, and it is difficult to meet the requirements of closed management and group meals for examinees and test staff.
At the same time, 156 test sites need to correspond to 491 junior high schools, which is equivalent to an average of 3 junior high school students in each test site to take the test. It is inevitable that students from different schools will gather and overlap.
Holding the senior high school entrance examination under the current situation may increase the risk of epidemic spread and cross-infection.
The second is that the 2021 high school entrance examination in Guangzhou will not be included in the province-wide unified examination. It will be independently organized by Guangzhou City to make independent examinations, and adjust the test time without affecting the organization of high school entrance examinations in other cities.
He said that although the senior high school entrance examination was postponed to July, Guangzhou will comprehensively study and judge the epidemic situation and determine the examination time as soon as possible on the premise of meeting the epidemic prevention and control requirements, and notify candidates and parents in advance.
At the same time, the senior high school entrance examination organization will not affect the completion of the enrollment work of high school before September 1, nor will it affect the normal start of the next semester.
