"We swab those who enter Italy. If infections start to increase again, we too should reinsert the quarantine for those arriving from England, but this situation does not exist at the moment, we are not there yet". Prime Minister Mario Draghi said this at a press conference at the end of the G7, answering a question on the so-called Delta variant. To those who ask him if, as in the UK, there is a rethinking of the openings in relation to the risk represented by the Indian variant, "for now - replies the premier - there is no reason to think that this can happen. It depends a lot on the size contagions, infections should spurt up ... but this is not what we see in other European countries. Spain and Greece do not quarantine from England, but we must be ready to react in a timely manner ".

A summer without the English would cost Italy 1.5 billion for lost expenses in housing, food, transport, entertainment, shopping and souvenirs. This is what emerges from an analysis by Coldiretti. Before the pandemic there were over 2.1 million citizens of Great Britain traveling to Italy during the months of July, August and September with the preferred destinations being the cities of art but - Coldiretti specifies - the British also greatly appreciate the Italian countryside and pay particular attention to the quality of the food for which they allocate a high share of their spending during the holiday. The effects are likely to be felt - Coldiretti specifies - also from the loss of the positive lever of tourism on national exports with tourists who, on their return home, look for the products tasted during the trip on the shelves. Great Britain ranks fourth among Italy's commercial partners for food and drink after Germany, France and the United States. After wine, with Prosecco in the lead, in second place among the best-selling Italian agri-food products in Great Britain - concludes Coldiretti - tomato derivatives, but the role of pasta, cheeses, cured meats and olive oil and the flow of Grana Padano and Parmigiano Reggiano.France and the United States.
