President Moon Jae-in expressed his regret that the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Suga did not take place at the site of the G7 summit, which was held in the UK.

It is known that the leaders of South Korea and Japan met for the first time at the first expanded meeting hall and greeted each other for about a minute at a banquet on the same day, but there was no official or informal meeting.

In a post on social media as President Moon left the UK and headed for his next destination, Austria, he said, "The first meeting with Prime Minister Suga was a precious time for a new beginning in Korea-Japan relations." said.

Referring to each meeting with other leaders such as German Chancellor Merkel, Australian Prime Minister Morrison, and French President Macron, he added, "We promised to play a role in line with our national dignity and national power, and especially emphasized the role of bridge between developed and developing countries." I did.

President Moon also said that historical events such as the 1907 World Peace Conference in The Hague and the Potsdam Conference in 1945, when the division of the Korean Peninsula was finalized by the decision of a great power, lingered in his mind.

“Now, the Republic of Korea has become one of the world’s 10th largest economy and a country that decides our own destiny,” he said. “I am proud of Korea and I am sincerely grateful to the people.”
