Jordan: Approval of the indictment in the “sedition” case

The Public Prosecutor of the State Security Court in Jordan, Brigadier-General, Military Judge Hazem Abdel Salam Al-Majali, approved yesterday the indictment issued by the State Security Court's prosecutor in the case known in the media as "sedition".

According to what the Jordan News Agency reported, Al-Majali approved the indictment issued by the State Security Court’s prosecutor in the case related to the two defendants: (Bassem Ibrahim Youssef Awad Allah) and (Sherif Abdel Rahman Hassan) Zaid Hussein, in which the defendants were assigned. They were charged with the felony of inciting opposition to the political regime in the Kingdom by association and the felony of carrying out acts that endanger the safety and security of society and causing sedition jointly, and the charge of possession of a narcotic substance with the intent to use it, and the abuse of narcotics for the second defendant.

The defendants will be notified of the indictment so that it will later be referred to the State Security Court with jurisdiction to consider it to start the trial procedures.

A source in the State Security Court told Jordan News Agency that the trial of the accused is expected to start next week.

Earlier, King Abdullah II of Jordan called on the concerned officials to follow the appropriate legal mechanism in this field.
