The frightening "Without a noise 2" returned to the top of the box office this weekend in North America, while "Where we come from", taken from the musical by Lin-Manuel Miranda, disappointed expectations, according to industry analysts on Sunday.

"Without a Sound 2", directed by John Krasinski with his wife Emily Blunt in the lead role, has raised $ 11.6 million, according to estimates by Exhibitor Relations.

This Paramount film about a family living in a post-apocalyptic world haunted by ferocious monsters who find their way around by sound became the first film to pass the $ 100 million mark in North America since the Covid-19 plunged the world - and the film industry - into crisis.

As for the energetic "Where we come from" by Warner Bros., adapted by Jon M. Chu, it garners 11.4 million, disappointing the expectations which predicted him to be 15 to 20 million in revenue.

It must be said that the film is also broadcast simultaneously, at no additional cost to subscribers, on the HBO Max platform.

The feature film tells the story and dreams of young Latinos in New York's Washington Heights neighborhood.

Another new release is in third place: "Pierre Lapin 2" from Sony, with 10.4 million.

Fourth, the third opus of the "Conjuring" franchise, with 10 million.

The story once again follows Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as paranormal investigators grappling with demonic machinations.

And fifth, the Disney "Cruella", a live action story of the origins of the shrew from "101 Dalmatians", with Emma Stone in the title role, with 6.7 million.

Other provisional figures from the North American box office:

6 - "Spirit: The Indomitable": 2.5 million

7 - "The House Next Door: Meet the Blacks": 1 million

8 - "An angry man": $ 615,000

9 - "Queen Bees": $ 328,000

10 - "Spiral: The Legacy of Saw": 305,000 dollars
