According to Ronald Malmkvist, the police need more powers to be able to fight the criminal clans.

- Here, perhaps, Denmark is a pioneering country that we can learn a lot from in Sweden, he says.

In total, the police estimate that there are about 40 criminal clans in Sweden.

According to Ronald Malmkvist, there is today a clan, or "ethnically larger network", active in the county and then in Linköping.

But at the same time, according to him, it is difficult to draw the line between clan and ethnic network / grouping - so there are more smaller groups that operate in a similar way.

Engaged in criminality

The criminal clans and ethnic groups in Östergötland deal with crime, but above all drug trafficking according to the police.

In other Swedish cities, there are examples of clans infiltrating social institutions, but according to Ronald Malmkvist, there is nothing to indicate that development in Östergötland right now.

- But we should have a vigilance. It is clear that there is interest from organized crime to infiltrate authorities. The police are an authority you can profit from infiltrating. We must be vigilant against that problem, he says.
