In a tweet from the Danish Armed Forces, no connection is made to yesterday's event.

That planes are moved between bases is not unusual, the authority points out and writes that the purpose of the transfer is to ensure Danish sovereignty.

The Danish government, on the other hand, has sharply criticized the Russian actions.

The ambassador was called

- There should be no doubt that this type of violation is completely unacceptable, said Trine Bramsen, Social Democratic Minister of Defense, to Ritzau yesterday.

Russia's ambassador to Denmark is also said to have been called to the Foreign Ministry to give an explanation, according to Danmarks Radio.

Yesterday's violation of Danish airspace is far from the first.

As recently as August last year, a similar incident took place when a Russian fighter plane flew after an American bomber in connection with an exercise and then entered Danish airspace.

"Obvious violations"

Even then, the Danish government responded by summoning the Russian ambassador.

- In recent times, we have seen more and more activity in order to test the borders and fly close to Danish airspace and now obvious violations of our airspace.

This is about an increase in activity, says Trine Bramsen according to the newspaper Politiken.
