The Congolese head of state visited the region to sympathize with the victims of the volcanic eruption of May 22.

He is accompanied by at least eight ministers in this mission which is both humanitarian and security.

During his stay in Goma, Félix Tshisekedi was particularly interested in shelter needs.

At the beginning of the week, according to his entourage, he will go to

Kibati, about twenty kilometers from Goma

, where a camp will be set up for the displaced.

This site is intended for approximately 17,000 people who lost their homes during the lava flow.

In particular, it will be equipped with a health center and a water supply point, in addition to the homes.

In Kibati, Félix Tshisekedi will also address the local population.

Following the massive return of residents, housing is a real headache for the authorities and humanitarian workers.

This is why the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (Ocha) facilitated, four days ago, a mission with humanitarian actors to identify the various sites that will temporarily accommodate disaster victims returned to Kanyaruchinya, around Goma, in Nyiragongo territory.

According to civil protection, 3,500 households will be housed there for three months before being permanently relocated.

Félix Tshisekedi's mission in the region is also secure.

According to his cabinet, he is expected to go to Beni in the middle of the week, where attacks attributed to ADF fighters have increased in recent weeks.
