The M2D organized demonstrations on Friday June 11 in Dakar, Diourbel and Ziguinchor to demand the release of detainees held after the riots of last March.

Violence that had left at least 13 dead, in the context of the procedure against Ousmane Sonko.

The coalition of political parties and civil society organizations that supports him suspended the demonstrations after mediation by the Caliph General of the Mourides.

Hat on his head and scarf in the colors of Senegal around his neck, Ousmane Sonko quotes one by one the names of the detainees described as "

politicians

" arrested three months ago.

On the platform installed in the Place de l'Obélisque, the opponent once again accuses the power of instrumentalizing justice.

The fight continues,

” he said.

A new event is already scheduled for June 23.

After a pause, the M2D therefore sounds the recall of the troops, and denies the government which had mentioned the presence of "

hidden forces

" during the riots.

"

There have never been" terrorists "here,

" proclaims its coordinator Cheikh Tidiane Dièye.

Senegal: the Movement for the Defense of Democracy suspends demonstrations

Is this the end of the mediation led by the Caliph General of the Mourides?

For Chérif Souleymane, who presents himself as a religious guide, the ball is in the president's court.

Macky Sall, he doesn't hear, he doesn't listen to anyone.

This is phase A. The second phase will be worse than that.

"

In view of the next local elections, in January 2022, the mobilization must also continue at the polls, according to Maïmouna Dièye, president of the women of Pastef, the party of Ousmane Sonko.

“

These elections will be an opportunity for the Senegalese people to show Macky Sall that he has shown his limits.

We want something else.

 "

The movement once again demands the holding of legislative elections scheduled for 2022, before the presidential election of 2024. President Macky Sall, for his part, begins this Saturday a new tour inside the country, in the north, in the regions of Saint-Louis and Matam.
