"A project that will meet the growing interest in moving to the countryside," the municipality writes on its website.

The idea is to engage local associations and real estate agents who, together with the municipality, will find a method for mediating houses that are empty today.

- Housing and moving in are priority issues because it provides greater opportunities to maintain and develop services and communications in rural areas, says Malin Svanholm (S), chairman of the municipal board.

Sustainable living

Now it's not just about getting more inhabitants but it's also a question of sustainability.

- It is more resource efficient to take advantage of the existing property portfolio than to produce new, explains Sofia Larsson, sustainability developer.

The project is led by Umeå University and is financed with a state grant of a total of 8 million, which Formas * is expected to grant in the coming days, of which Kramfors will receive one million.
