Gunnar got a line in woodcraft - now the wood artist from Luleå is exhibiting his life's work

The exhibition includes a long wall filled with many of the country's birds.

In the room next door you will find a number of different mammals that he has also sculpted and painted.

- The hearing you have received is quite incredible.

This seems to be popular with animals and nature, he says.

Works with wood and copper

Gunnar Hansson lives in Antnäs outside Luleå and has been active as an artist and artisan for over 40 years.

He works mainly in wood, but also in copper.

He feels that wooden sculptures for a long time have not been considered fine enough in art circles.

According to him, it has therefore been difficult to exhibit in larger art galleries.

But now, as I said, he gets the chance to show parts of his life's work in his home municipality of Luleå.

 - It's not entirely wrong.

Works daily with his wood art

Gunnar Hansson has carved 350 different bird species and some of the bird sculptures were created 30 years ago.

- For a couple of years I sat and hacked and carved.

And then you have to get some color on them too, he says.

Gunnar Hansson had lines in grades in handicraft.

Nowadays he works daily with his wood art in the old school in Antnäs where he learned to read and write.

- There is nothing to brag about that I did not go to the craft.

There may be a background as to why it was not interesting, he says.
