The announcement comes after Colonel Assimi Goïta was appointed interim president this week.

At the end of May, Goïta led a coup that led to the arrest of the country's then transitional president Bah Ndaw and Prime Minister Moctar Ouane and was forced to resign.

In August last year, Goïta, along with Camara, led another military coup that overthrew the elected President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, after a period of mass protests against corruption and the security situation.

Following the latest military coup, Mali was expelled from both the African Union and the West African co-operation bloc Ecowas.
