June 11, 2021 The CTS recommended for the first doses of vaccinations to reserve the doses of Astra Zeneca for those aged 60 years or older. For the under 60 age group there is instead a recommendation for mRna vaccines. In this epidemiological context, the CTS in close dialogue with Aifa and the other health institutions in the country has changed, and has deemed it appropriate to re-evaluate the indications for the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine because, having changed the scenario, the relationship between benefits and potential risks associated with rare thrombosis changes in a function of age but also of the changed scenario. The coordinator of the Cts Locatelli said so.



Second dose, same vaccine for over 60, heterologous for under 60


For the second doses it was decided to give a recommendation to use the same dose of the same vaccine for over 60s, while for the under 60s, even in the absence of worrying warning signs, the recommendation is for heterologous vaccination. This was stated by the coordinator of the CTS Franco Locatelli at the press conference to update the vaccination campaign.
