155 people were arrested in Sweden during the international operation Trojan Shield.

Now it is up to the country's prison to make room for them.

The problem is that there is already an extreme shortage of space in several prisons in the country, a problem that has been raised by, among others, the trade union ST.

The union's chairman Britta Lejon thinks that the authorities generally have good cooperation to solve the problems, but believes that there is a lack of money for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service to deal with the lack of space.

- We have said that before and it is an opinion that we stand by, she says.

"More difficult to handle conflicts"

She does not want to comment on the actual work situation after the Trojan Shield, but is well aware of how the lack of space can affect both staff and inmates.

- There will be a more strained work environment.

To deal with conflicts and needs, one must be able to move around inmates and break harmful patterns.

It becomes more difficult to work proactively and in a good way when there is no air in the system.

The extra money that the union requested for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service should come as soon as possible, she says.

- The government has succeeded in implementing several extra budgets during the pandemic and it should be possible to speed up the process for us as well.
