New measures, new reports and highlights: an update on the latest developments in the Covid-19 pandemic around the world.

- Europe: insufficient vaccination (WHO) -

In the 53 territories of the European region according to WHO criteria, 30% of the population has received a first dose of vaccine and 17% are fully vaccinated.

- Vaccines: the European Parliament for the lifting of patents -

The European Parliament, in disagreement with the European Commission, voted on Thursday for a temporary lifting of patents protecting vaccines against Covid-19 in order to develop their production, at the end of a vote which divided MEPs.

- Denmark: gradual lifting of restrictions -

Denmark announced on Thursday the final stages of a plan providing for the total lifting of restrictions on October 1 and the disappearance of the health passport.

With the exception of public transport - in some cases - masks will no longer be compulsory from June 14.

They should disappear completely on September 1st.

Bars and restaurants will close at midnight from June 11.

Nightclubs will be authorized to reopen on September 1, upon presentation of a health pass until October 1.

This health pass will no longer be requested in museums, cinemas and theaters from August 1, then in bars and restaurants a month later.

- Abu Dhabi: vaccine or PCR test for shopping -

From June 15, access to public spaces such as supermarkets, restaurants or beaches in Abu Dhabi will be reserved for people vaccinated against the coronavirus or having a recent negative PCR test, announced this Gulf emirate.

- India: new daily death record -

India recorded more than 6,000 deaths from Covid-19 on Thursday after a dramatic upward revision in the state of Bihar (northeast) was postponed for the past 24 hours, fueling suspicions of 'a much heavier overall balance sheet.

- Euro: a player tested negative after being positive -

Spanish defender Diego Llorente tested negative for Covid-19 on Wednesday after testing positive the day before, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) announced on Thursday a few days before the start of La Roja in the Euro on Monday against Sweden.

- More than 3.7 million dead -

The pandemic has killed more than 3,764,250 people around the world since the end of December 2019, according to an assessment established by AFP from official sources Thursday at 10:00 GMT.

After the United States (598,765 dead), the countries with the highest number of deaths are Brazil (479,515), India (359,676), Mexico (229,353) and Peru (187,479).

These figures, which are based on daily reports from national health authorities, are generally underestimated.

They exclude the upward revisions carried out a posteriori by certain statistical organizations.

The WHO even estimates, taking into account the excess mortality directly and indirectly linked to Covid-19, that the results of the pandemic could be two to three times higher than that officially recorded.
