10 June 2021 A decision is expected shortly because after new cases of hospitalizations for thrombosis, including that of an 18-year-old in Genoa, the use of the Vaxzevria vaccine, AstraZeneca, makes us think again. The choice of open days also open to young people is also under discussion. The Technical Scientific Committee (CTS) in the next few hours could express itself with a new pronouncement on the use in the vaccination strategy, in particular for the under 50s.

Meanwhile, the Regions continue to move in no particular order, between those who keep the open days and those who cancel them , while the doubts raised by experts on the advisability of not using it for young people increase. Solicitations that prompted the CTS to

evaluate a new strategy

, especially after the thrombosis case of the 18-year-old girl from Genoa vaccinated with AstraZeneca. The new assessments could lead to limits of non-feasibility under the age of 30 or 40, as explained by the Undersecretary of Health, Pierpaolo Sileri, "while I would not do a revision over the age of 50, because the relationship between risks and benefits is undoubtedly, even with the current circulation, in favor of the benefit ".

Although in Italy the AstraZeneca vaccine is

"already preferentially recommended for people over 60 years of age"

, as the CTS coordinator Franco Locatelli recalled, many regions have moved in no particular order, and continue to do so. ASL Napoli 2 yesterday revoked the open day scheduled for tonight with Astrazeneca to all residents over 18 years old, without a reservation. In Sicily, on the other hand, the initiative returns from today to Sunday 13 June for citizens aged 18 and over, who are not frail, who will be able to get vaccinated on a voluntary basis without booking with AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson.

In Lazio, reservations for an open week over 18 Astrazeneca with vaccinations from today to Sunday 13 June with virtual tickets have been open since yesterday. In Abruzzo, there are fewer and fewer 'open days' for vaccines against Covid-19, but for organizational and logistical reasons. In Friuli Venezia Giulia, recalled the president Massimiliano Fedriga, no 'Astra-days' dedicated to young people were organized, and Luca Zaia, president of Veneto, claimed the choice of his region to no longer administer viral vector vaccines ( Astrazeneca and J&J) under 60.

In the Marche region there have been no Astra-Days for young people: last week the Region organized Vax Days for high school graduates but with the Pfizer vaccine, while in Puglia for some time first doses have not been made with AstraZeneca, but only second ones, because there are over 300 thousand calls to make. Sardinia continues on the path already undertaken: do not use AstraZeneca outside the foreseen age groups, not even on the occasion of the Astra-days that have been dedicated, on the island, to the administration of second doses for school staff who will be engaged in the exams of maturity.

"Based on data published in Science in April referring to the United Kingdom, it was found that the risk of complications with this vaccine, such as thrombosis associated with thrombocytopenia, between the ages of 20 and 29 was 1.1 per 100,000, while the risk to have a severe form of Covid for that age group ranges from 0.8 to 6.9 per 100,000 ", explains immunologist Giuseppe Remuzzi. This is why the EMA, he continues, "has chosen not to advise against administration by gender or age group ', leaving the decision to individual states, based on their needs".

Italy had decided to update the leaflet and the notices recommended by the EMA, recommending the vaccine over 60 years of age.
