A 7-year-old child was killed Wednesday in a violent road accident which left four other victims, seriously injured, in Préchacq-Josbaig, near Oloron-Sainte-Marie (Pyrénées-Atlantiques), we have learned by firefighters.

According to firefighters, around 5.30 p.m., two cars collided head-on on a two-way departmental road in southern Béarn.

"The shock was violent," said a source at the departmental fire and rescue service of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques.

8 months pregnant woman and baby injured

The 7-year-old child, in cardiopulmonary arrest when emergency services arrived, died on the spot.

He was in one of the cars with a 30-year-old woman, 8 months pregnant, and a 15-month-old baby.

The two victims were evacuated in "serious condition" to the Pau hospital center.

The occupants of the second car, a man and a woman aged 67 and 68, also seriously injured, were transported to hospitals in Bayonne and Tarbes.

A gendarmerie investigation was opened to determine the circumstances of the accident.
