The bodies of the two retirees, aged 70 and 74, were found on Sunday in their house in Notre-Dame-de-Riez, near Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie in Vendée.

A 37-year-old man was indicted Tuesday evening for murder and act of torture and barbarism on his parents, says the prosecutor of the Republic of La Roche-sur-Yon.

The suspect, who lived in a mobile home at the end of the family garden, was calmly arrested by the gendarmes the same day, around 1:00 p.m.

A worrying disappearance had been reported by the suspect's siblings who were surprised not to hear from their parents, the latter having to recover their grandson.

He confessed to the murder

The 30-year-old son reportedly confessed to the murder to one of his neighbors.

And he did not put up any resistance when the gendarmes arrived.

"The neighbor, at the request of the sister of the respondent, went to the home of the victims on Sunday a little before 9 am and the son opened the door saying that he had killed his parents," said Emmanuelle Lepissier, prosecutor of La Roche-sur-Yon.

"A dispute would have erupted a priori for a futile reason which remains to be clarified and the respondent admitted having hit his parents with a crutch," she added.

At the end of his custody, he was indicted for murder on ascendant and act of torture and barbarism.

"There are very many blows"

“He hit them extremely violently, there are many, many hits.

He himself declared having "massacred" them.

We have retained the count of act of torture and barbarism given the violence of the facts, ”said prosecutor Emmanuelle Lepissier.

The suspect is known for driving under the influence of alcohol in 2017 but not for violent acts.

The prosecution retained his placement in pre-trial detention.
