June 09, 2021 According to the latest Johns Hopkins University tally, there are 173,998,753 cases of coronavirus infection in the world since the beginning of the pandemic, of which 273,575 in the last 24 hours. The deaths since yesterday have risen by 8,191 units, for a total of 3,745,152 (all data updated).

Chile: greater impact on younger groups

Although 56.2% of the population of Chile has completed immunization against Covid-19, or more than 8.54 million people according to the Ministry of Health, a phenomenon is confirmed in the country which had already been dramatically highlighted in April, namely that of the greatest impact of the disease on the younger sections of the population.



In fact, in the country, Covid - as the health authorities have recently reported - continues to impact particularly on the under 40s who represent the largest number of hospitalizations in intensive care units. A phenomenon as mentioned that had already come to light in April but which on Monday took on even more marked contours with the latest available data that speak of 3,247 patients assisted in resuscitation in a severe or very serious state (of which 2,769 are connected to mechanical ventilation) and of which 723 are 39 or younger, a figure that represents 22.84% of the total.



The number of severe cases between 50 and 59 years old is almost identical, 722 in intensive care, equal to 22.81% of the total admissions to this area. The authorities also reported that following the list are patients in the age group between 60 and 69, occupying 642 beds in intensive care; and patients aged between 40 and 49, who reached a total of 639 resuscitation hospitalizations. Finally, the group of people aged 70 and over totals just 439 hospitalizations. The Ministry of Health of Chile (Minsal) took the opportunity to specify that the lowering of the age range among serious cases is due precisely to the fact that vaccination is not yet widespread among these groups at very high levels. For this reason, a national campaign will begin in the coming weeks to continue promoting theinoculation among the youngest. 



India: in 24h the healed overcome the new infections

In the last 24 hours, according to the data that appeared a little while ago on the website of the Ministry of Health in New Delhi, India has registered 92,596 new infections from Covid, bringing the total count of cases in the country to 29,089,069. In the same period of time, another 2,219 deaths have been recorded in the subcontinent, for a total now reached 353,528 victims since the beginning of the pandemic.



The government website also points out that in the last 24 hours 162,664 people returned negative to the swab for a total of 27,504,126 officially registered "recoveries". It should be emphasized that this number does not take into account the consequences, very often even serious, which the survivors of Covid can suffer and which currently the Indian health system, already at the end of its strength, can hardly take charge.
