  According to the White House website, in a new executive order, Biden announced the revocation of several earlier executive orders signed by Trump against TikTok and Wechat (No. EO 13942, EO 13943, EO 13971).

  The new executive order instructs the U.S. Department of Commerce to evaluate applications related to foreign "adversaries" and "act as appropriate."

The US government believes that these applications may pose a risk to the country's data privacy and national security.

  On August 6, 2020, the then-U.S. President Trump issued a ban on WeChat and TikTok for threatening U.S. national security.

On September 18, the US Department of Commerce announced that it would implement a ban on WeChat and TikTok on the 20th, including prohibiting downloading or updating of WeChat and TikTok applications through the US Online App Store.

  In response, US users of WeChat and TikTok filed lawsuits against the injunction in San Francisco and Washington respectively.

Later, the federal courts in San Francisco and Washington suspended the Trump administration's bans on WeChat and TikTok, respectively.

Faced with court rulings, the Trump administration filed separate appeals.

  Earlier, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Commerce of China pointed out that China urges the United States to stop unreasonably suppressing Chinese applications and stop restricting the normal use of Chinese products and services in the United States.
