According to The Wall Street Journal, Biden signed a new order requiring security checks on these and other applications.

Under the new order, the Department of Commerce will have to evaluate applications involving "foreign opponents" in accordance with US supply chain security regulations.

The agency will be required to verify programs developed and supported by individuals who are "controlled by foreign opponents," including China.

According to Bloomberg, by his order, Biden instructed the Minister of Commerce Gina Raimondo, among other things, to block those applications that pose a security threat.

In the summer of 2020, Donald Trump signed a decree banning transactions with the Chinese company Tencent, which owns the WeChat messenger.

He also banned any transactions with ByteDance, which owns the Chinese social network TikTok.

In September 2020, the US Department of Commerce banned the downloading of Chinese applications TikTok and WeChat in the country.

Later, a court in Washington temporarily blocked a banning order from downloading TikTok.
