June 09, 2021 - The White House has dropped Trump-era executive orders intended to attempt to ban the TikTok and WeChat apps, and will conduct a review designed to identify national security risks associated with China-related software. Official sources have made it known.

A new executive order mandates the Commerce Department to undertake what is described as "evidence-based" analysis of transactions involving apps manufactured, supplied or controlled by China.

Authorities are particularly concerned about apps that collect personal data from users or that have links to the Chinese military or intelligence activities.

Trump had targeted TikTok, a very popular app among the youngest, and WeChat, considering them unsafe. The tycoon had pressed for at least one of the apps to be sold to Americans, and had signed an order forbidding them to be downloaded in the US, a measure that was never put into practice because the judges had deemed it not legitimate.
