The attacks are repeated and always occur in the same region, not far from the border with Burkina Faso.

This is the third time this has happened.

Before the Tougbo attack, two previous attacks had been carried out in Kafolo.

There was Kafolo 1, in June 2020, 14 Ivorian soldiers killed;

then Kafolo 2 on March 29.

The attackers have always targeted military bases and strike in the same region. Why ? “

They are attacking the area because it borders Burkina Faso, the country from which they are trying to project themselves. This is an area near their home base. Then we have the Comoé park which is an interesting area for them, which they can transform into a sort of gray area from which they can project themselves towards other attacks

”, explains historian Arthur Banga, security-defense expert at Houphouët-Boigny University. The response must be concerted and coordinated, he concludes.

In the small town of Tougbo, shaken by Monday's attack, the army has deployed reinforcements and is carrying out search operations there.

The army has not communicated a new assessment, it is still one soldier killed.
