Would you agree to see the deputies replaced by an artificial intelligence system?

This is the question asked in a survey conducted by researchers from the IE Center for the Governance of Change among European citizens, reports

Presse-Citron

.

In total, 51% of the 2,769 people questioned said they were in favor of reducing the number of national parliamentarians and replacing them with an AI.

60% of young people aged 25 to 34 are for this type of proposal and 56% of 35-44 years old.

In Europe, 69% of Britons and 54% of Germans have shown their desire to keep human parliamentarians while 66% of Spaniards and 59% of Italians are in favor of the introduction of an artificial intelligence system to replace elected officials .

A subject that would pose democratic problems

Unsurprisingly, the Chinese would agree to 75% to replace parliamentarians with an algorithm.

Conversely, 60% of Americans said they were against this type of modification.

The replacement of elected officials by an AI would, however, pose ethical problems, in particular concerning the political orientations of the people who would be responsible for developing the system.

Some specialists fear a profound questioning of the democratic foundations if humans were to be replaced by algorithms.
