June 07, 2021 China is now grappling with the annual university entrance exam, the dreaded

'Gaokao',

the watershed between an insured career and a much more bumpy one, with a record 10.78 million candidates are enrolled in the test considered among the most exhausting in the world.

This is the largest collective event organized in China since the Covid-19 pandemic, with millions of students deployed in about 7,000 locations throughout the country.

Local governments, state media reported, have customized anti-pandemic control measures to ensure student safety and the smooth running of the test, still considered by many to be an opportunity to change their fate.

In Guangzhou, the capital of wealthy Guangdong where a Coronavirus outbreak recently emerged, the examination is taking place following strict health measures.

So far, more than 50,000 candidates and about 7,000 people involved in the organization of the trial have undergone two rounds of molecular swabs, while all staff have been vaccinated. In

Beijing, on the

other hand, 51,738 students have enrolled in Gaokao, taking the test in 1,566 classrooms located in 90 locations.

In the capital, compulsory vaccination was imposed on all front-line examination personnel, with the requirement to submit a negative molecular test within a week of testing. Temperature screening, disinfection and ventilation are the other rules that complement Gaokao 2021.
