In Politiken's article, criticism is directed at Michael Bojesen's leadership of the Danish Radio girls' choir.

A group of former choir members believed that there was a “sexualized environment” during the period 2001 to 2010 when Bojesen was chief conductor there.

This weekend, Michael Bojesen made the decision to resign from his position as chairman of Denmark's largest art fund, the Statens Kunstfond.

On Monday, he announced that he is taking a break from his assignment at Malmö Opera.

- He has taken this very hard.

He was extremely responsible during that period, so he takes full responsibility for the work environment in the girls' choir, says Torgny Nilsson, press officer at Malmö Opera.

Rejects parts of the criticism

According to Torgny Nilsson, Michael Bojesen has asked for time off indefinitely to be able to take care of himself and his family.

Meanwhile, other people at Malmö Opera are taking over his work.

- This has no consequences for our business right now.

He has appointed people who can temporarily take over his assignments, says Torgny Nilsson.

Michael Bojesen himself has declined to participate in the interview.

How does Michael Bojesen relate to the accusations?

- Part of the criticism was that he himself had sent inappropriate text messages to a choir member.

He firmly rejects that.

But if it is the case that a group of choristers feels that they have been in a vulnerable situation under his leadership, he takes responsibility for it, says Torgny Nilsson.

"He has our full support"

According to Torgny Nilsson, Malmö Opera still has full confidence in Michael Bojesen.

The company's board confirms that picture.

- Michael Bojesen has done a superb job for Malmö Opera, also when it comes to working preventively against harassment. It is entirely his own decision to take a break, there is a lot of pressure on him. With the information we have now, he has our full support. We are waiting for the investigation as Denmark's radio does, says Per-Martin Svensson, chairman of Malmö Opera's board, to SVT Kulturnyheterna.
