  • Andalusia financing 'loses' 900 million due to the criteria of Pedro Sánchez to distribute the Covid fund

On June 17, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will receive the Andalusian president, Juanma Moreno, at the Palacio de La Moncloa. It will be the first

official meeting

between the two and when it occurs, exactly two years and five months will have elapsed since Moreno Bonilla was invested in the Andalusian Parliament with the votes of the PP, Citizens and Vox, thus becoming the first president of the Non-socialist board.

More than two years in which the

requests

of the head of the Andalusian executive for a bilateral meeting with Sánchez

have been repeated,

which have been systematically ignored since the first time it was raised, in February 2019. Moreno has even referred this request by letter and in January 2020, when the pandemic had not yet broken out, the regional president raised it publicly without obtaining a response. The presidents' conferences, which have been virtual during the health crisis for the most part, and some official act have been, in fact, the only occasions in which both leaders have seen each other.

The delay of La Moncloa in programs the meeting between Sánchez and Moreno contrasts with the speed with which the President of the Government has scheduled his first meeting with the new president of Catalonia, Pere Aragonès, with whom he has already announced that he will see this month June, just a few weeks after he was inaugurated. Aragonés took charge of the Generalitat at the end of May and, after a telephone conversation with Sánchez, both agreed to meet in person in Madrid in order to reactivate the

negotiation

with ERC, one of its fundamental partners in the Congress of Deputies.

Precisely, the Andalusian executive had criticized this week the difference in treatment of Sánchez compared to the Catalan.

It was the counselor of the Presidency and government spokesman, Elías Bendodo, who at the press conference after the Governing Council raised this complaint and indicated that the Board considers it "magnificent" that Sánchez receives Aragonès, but he called it a

"lack of I respect "

that the President of the Government" has not yet seen fit to receive "Juanma Moreno so far in the legislature that began after the regional elections of December 2, 2018.

Since February 2019

The spokesman counselor stressed that Andalusia is "the autonomous community where more Spaniards live", and remarked that the Board has been "requesting an appointment" with Sánchez for that meeting with Moreno "since February 2019".

Bendodo highlighted that the last time it was just a month ago when the need for a meeting between Sánchez and Moreno was raised for the last time through a

letter

that "they have not answered us" from the Government and called attention to the fact that the meetings that during the legislature the president of the Board has maintained with King Felipe VI are "many more" than those that have occurred with the chief executive.

Regarding the non-holding of that meeting so far, the Minister of Finance and spokesperson, María Jesús Montero, answered Bendodo that the appointment of the Chairman of the Board, in January 2019, "was followed by several

electoral processes

", and later the Covid-19 pandemic broke out, as he recalled before specifying that "we will resume that meeting as soon as possible."

The

financing

of the community has always been the great issue pending discussion with the central executive and in these two years there have been innumerable complaints that the Andalusian executive has launched about the criteria with which public funds are distributed among the communities.

Not only in the framework of the current regional model, but also in the distribution of extraordinary funds due to the pandemic in which the population criterion has not been taken into account.

In these two years, the two executives have collided not only on the issue of financing.

The reduction in taxes promoted by the coalition government of the PP and Cs in Andalusia has been another of the fronts and the management of the

pandemic

and the restrictions have also motivated clashes.

In addition, as announced by the Junta de Andalucía in a statement, the meeting will address the fight against the pandemic and the

economic and social

reactivation

of Andalusia, "issues that have become a priority for the Andalusian Government."
