A fire broke out very early in the morning of Friday, June 4 in a warehouse at the Sloboda arms factory in Cacak, southwestern Serbia.

In the hangars were stored detonators and small caliber ammunition.

Although the reasons for the fire are not yet known, the evacuation system worked well, as of the 60 employees present, none were injured.

Ammunition explosions threw shards across the city and many buildings and vehicles were damaged.

There are no casualties, because the nearest houses have been evacuated and part of the population has taken refuge by themselves in caves.

Dilapidated equipment

Although very rare, this type of accident is not a first in Cacak.

In 2006, a similar fire hit the pyrotechnic production line, without causing any casualties.

The Serbian arms industry produces mainly small arms and ammunition.

The country exports to all the hot spots of the planet, but invests too little in the modernization of the production tool.

A dilapidation which perhaps explains the accident on Friday.
