Early on Saturday morning, a cargo ship ran aground off Fårö, which P4 Gotland was the first to tell.

The 75 meter long ship was on its way to Riga with timber in the cargo.

The ship was built in 1985 and sails under the Finnish flag.

On Saturday morning, the ship was still aground, but no leaks have been noted, says a representative of the ship's owner.

Regular inspections during the day have not shown that any water has penetrated or that any oil has leaked.

The Coast Guard's environmental protection vessel, KBV 031, is expected to arrive on site just before lunchtime.

In the afternoon, dives will probably take place to check the casualty's status.

There is no suspicion of sea drunkenness, but the Coast Guard has begun an investigation into negligence in sea traffic.
