A mummified body.

This is what the police of the 20th arrondissement of Paris discovered on Tuesday in an apartment on Boulevard Mortier.

That day, around 7.20 a.m., a 47-year-old man went to the police station to reveal his heavy secret.

He kept the corpse of his mother, who died at the age of 75 in 2014 from cancer, in her home.

The body was placed in a suitcase stored in a closet in the bathroom, reports

Le Parisien

.

By concealing this death, the man would have continued to receive his mother's pension.

The forensic institute of Paris carried out an autopsy of the body and this did not reveal any trace of violence.

The thesis of intentional homicide was thus ruled out.

A source close to the case explains to the

Parisian

: “The investigators think that he decided to put an end to this masquerade because an eviction from the apartment had been ordered and that he did not know what to do with the mummy.

After 48 hours of custody, the quadra was released.
