30 May 2021 The 'missile' Filippo Ganna puts his signature on the final time trial - 30.3 kilometers all flat from Senago to Piazza Duomo - which does not change a story that has already been written: the Giro d'Italia number 104 is by Egan Bernal. For the phenomenal Colombian climber, born in 1997, born on 13 January just like Marco Pantani, it is the second great triumph after the one at the Tour de France 2019. Giro and Grande Boucle at just 24 years old (but in his showcase there are also Paris-Nice and Tour of Switzerland): a lot, a lot of stuff for a cyclist who seems predestined and who in this edition has proved to be the strongest of all. He tries it again in Campo Felice (where he took the pink jersey), on the Zoncolan and in Cortina d'Ampezzo, mountains where if you don't have a leg and pure class, you can't survive. One little crisis,in the fraction of last Wednesday in Sega di Ala, brilliantly overcome until the triumph in Milan.

The final podium of the race is completed by a moving Damiano Caruso, who in the general closes at 1'29 "behind the Colombian. Spectacular and unexpected Giro for the 33-year-old Sicilian, a sort of career award, with the fantastic high note of twenty-four hours ago on Alpe Motta. Third British Simon Yates, protagonist last Friday of a champion 'jolt' on Alpe di Mera. Too late to turn the tables.

Twenty-first and final stage of the pink race for 'men-jets' like the Piedmontese Filippo Ganna, who had won the inaugural time trial in Turin and who puts the seal on the final one by stopping the clock at 33'48 ", a time that no one can beat . The success of the cyclist from Verbania is the seventh of an Italian in this edition: well, very well indeed. Behind him the French Cavagna (at 12 ") - second despite the curve taken badly at 500 meters from the finish and having ended up against the barriers, without that error he could have finished first -, then another blue specialist in time trials , the Mantuan Edoardo Affini, third at 13 ”. Excellent fourth Matteo Sobrero (at 14 ”), seventh Alberto Bettiol, ninth Gianni Moscon.

“It's hard to believe what's happening, I can't find the words, but inside I have strong emotions. I was doing the Giro for the first time and I immediately won it. I will remember many things from this experience, I ran in freedom, as I like it. Is fantastic". These are the 'hot' words of an Egan Bernal in seventh heaven.
