Former Roma and Inter Milan coach Luciano Spalletti succeeds Gennaro Gattuso on the Napoli bench, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis announced on Saturday.

"Welcome Luciano, together we will do a good job," said the Neapolitan president on Twitter.

Spalletti, 62, has been without a club since the end of his experience on the bench for Inter Milan, which he took to the Champions League during his two seasons of presence (2017-19).

This will be the goal again assigned to Naples, who missed the C1 the last two seasons with Gennaro Gattuso by finishing 7th in 2019-2020 then 5th this season, and letting the qualification slip away because of a draw at home against Hellas Verona on the last day of Sunday.

Gennaro Gattuso, cold for months with its president, engaged at the beginning of the week at Fiorentina.

Spalletti has two Italian Cups and a Supercup with Roma to his record as well as two Russian league titles and a Russian Cup with Zenit Saint-Petersburg, where he coached between 2010 and 2014, between his two experiences on the Giallorossi bench (2005-09, 2016-17).
