The boss of LR deputies Damien Abad pleaded on Saturday for the right to designate its candidate for the 2022 presidential election "quickly" at the start of the school year, in order to "embody" among voters a possible "alternation" to Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen .

"It is urgent to ensure that we can find this candidate" and "this choice will have to be made quickly at the end of the summer holidays," said on France Inter Mr. Abad.

The party plans for the moment to designate the candidate in the fall, around October-November, but for Mr. Abad "at the beginning of September it will be necessary that the designation of the candidate is specified".

Because "when we do not have a candidate, we are exposed. Everyone at LR wants to wear the colors and values ​​of our political family. The difficulty is that we do not sufficiently embody a political alternation," he said. -he assures.

To designate the candidate, it is better according to him "a discussion between everyone, which allows us to see which one is best placed".

"I do not believe in the primary" that "our party is not able to organize" and which "will create a logic of stables and corridors," added Mr. Abad.

The president of Hauts-de-France Xavier Bertrand (ex-LR), who has already formalized his candidacy for 2022, "is a right-wing man" and François Baroin "has all the assets to carry the banner" even if he does not seem to want to come forward, but "we have other talents," said Mr. Abad, referring in particular to the president (ex-LR) of Ile-de-France Valérie Pécresse.
