Wes Anderson's new film "The French Dispatch" will be screened in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival in July, organizers said on Friday.

"Initially scheduled to be unveiled at Cannes 2020", the edition canceled due to the first confinement in France, this film shot in Angoulême, in southwestern France, "will make its world premiere in competition at Cannes 2021 ", said the festival on Twitter.

The film brings together a host of stars, including Bill Murray, the director's favorite actor, Tilda Swinton, Timothée Chalamet, Adrien Brody, and on the French side, Léa Seydoux and Mathieu Amalric.

52-year-old American director, Wes Anderson has built in ten feature films, such as "On board the Darjeeling Limited", "Aquatic Life" or "Isle of Dogs", a tender and melancholy universe, marked by his love for perfectly symmetrical planes.

"The French Dispatch" features a collection of stories from the latest issue of an American magazine, published in a fictional 20th century French town, according to its synopsis.

This is the third film officially in the running to succeed the Palme d'Or 2019, "Parasites" by South Korean Bong Joon Ho. The official selection of the festival is to be unveiled on Thursday, June 3, during the traditional press conference .

There already appear "Annette", of the French Leos Carax, who will open the festival and bring together Marion Cotillard and Adam Driver, with the Sparks in the script and in the music.

Dutchman Paul Verhoeven, author of scandalous films ("Basic Instinct", "Elle"), will also be in the running with "Benedetta", a film about a lesbian nun in the 17th century, played by Virginie Efira.

The Festival is to be held from July 6 to 17.
