Russian President Vladimir Putin said that his country's army has tested the latest weapons it possesses and has proven its "unique" characteristics in operations it has carried out in Syria.

This came in a meeting held - yesterday, Thursday - with officials responsible for developing defense industries and leaders of the Russian army in the city of Sochi, southwest of Russia.

And Putin said that the analysis of military conflicts in recent years and the experiences of the world's leading armies showed the enormous role played by cruise missiles and guided munitions at various levels.

He pointed out that the Russian army possesses the latest long-range cruise missiles, rocket launchers and guided bombs, which have unique specifications that make them better than their foreign counterparts.

He added, "These specifications were confirmed in real military actions during the operations that were carried out against the terrorists in Syria."

The Russian president stressed the importance of maintaining the pace of modern weapons production for use and testing in military exercises over the coming years.

At the request of the Syrian regime, Russian warplanes launched its first raids in Syria on September 30, 2015 targeting the countryside of the governorates of Homs and Hama (central), before then covering large areas of the country.

Russia currently has several military bases in Syria, most of them in the Sahel region, most notably the Hmeimim base in Latakia Governorate (west).

Through their military intervention in Syria, the Russians played a major role in changing the equation on the ground in favor of the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, and caused tens of thousands of deaths and injuries, in addition to the displacement of Syrians from their villages and cities, as happened in Aleppo, according to the Syrian opposition.
