More and more young people are sharing news via social media such as Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat.

Mehirit Tadesse says that she does not use the traditional media when she reads news.

Instead, she is used to receiving news via friends and her mobile phone.

- I'm not a person who likes to sit and watch TV.

I think it takes a long time and you get bored.

When you are online or social media, then you can look at different things and then you see something, read it and move on to the next news, she says.

Media consumption increased last year

The Media Barometer 2020 shows that Swedes increased their media consumption during the pandemic year, as much time as in 2020 we have never spent on media during the 40 years that the Media Barometer conducted measurements.

On average, the population spent seven hours per person and day on various media.

The most extensive use of media was among 15-24-year-olds who watched and listened for almost nine hours a day.
