“The global goal of this call for proposals is to promote the sustainable and equitable development of the Syrian communities,” the EC writes.

Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build up the potential of representatives of the Syrian civil society "as reliable partners in the processes of local development" capable of offering innovative ideas to solve the problems of the republic's residents.

It is noted that events should be aimed not only at officially registered activists, but also at unregistered activists, including volunteers.

It is expected to expand their knowledge, including on project management, fundraising and communication.

The EC hopes that as a result, such organizations will be able to identify the needs and problems of the population, as well as take effective measures to solve them.

Residents, in turn, will perceive civil society as a partner influencing changes in their communities, the European Office expects.

A total of € 2.5 million will be spent for these purposes.

The document emphasizes that the right of Syrian citizens to determine their own future is at the heart of EU policy and is "the basis for this call for proposals, which can serve as a pilot project for future activities."

Last year, the European Commission intended to allocate € 10 million for the "promotion of democracy and human rights" in several regions of the world. The list includes more than 100 countries, including Syria.
