The head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, said that the lull arrangement that was recently concluded with the Israeli side is fragile and did not include a solution to the root of the problem.

Sinwar said - in an interview with Anadolu Agency - that what was agreed upon was a mutual and simultaneous ceasefire on both sides, adding that it was all linked to the behavior of the occupation during the coming days.

He added that the matter is also linked to the pressure of the international system and the world on the occupation to abide by the rights of the Palestinian people, international resolutions and international law.

Last Friday, a ceasefire came into effect between Israel and the resistance, mediated by Egypt, after an 11-day military confrontation, during which Israel launched hundreds of air strikes and artillery shelling, which caused the death and injury of hundreds of Palestinians.

And the outbreak of the fighting in Gaza was caused by violations committed by the occupation in Jerusalem, especially in Al-Aqsa Mosque and Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, where the occupation seeks to evacuate Palestinian homes and hand them over to settlers.

The ball in the occupation court

Sinwar said if the occupation committed itself to desist from attacking the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian people wherever they are, then surely this truce can last.

However, if the enemy attacked our sanctities and repeated its desecration of our Al-Aqsa Mosque, and repeated its attack on our people in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood and trying to drive them out of their homes, then surely this truce will explode.

The leader of Hamas in Gaza indicated that the ball is in the court of the occupation, and he is the one who bears responsibility and is required to abide by international laws.

"The world is also required to stop the hand of occupation from our people and our sanctity, and to abide by international laws," he said.

The last confrontation

Speaking about the recent round of fighting - which took place between the Palestinian factions and Israel - Sinwar said, "It is true that the criminal enemy committed great crimes and massacres against us, but our fighters in the (Izz al-Din) al-Qassam Brigades have their hands on the trigger and their fingers on the firing presses of rockets."

We are fully prepared and ready to protect our holy sites and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to protect Sheikh Jarrah (neighborhood), he added.

In response to Israel's accusations to Hamas of firing rockets indiscriminately at civilians, he said that we as a Palestinian resistance defend our rights, our sanctities and our people, and we have the right that is guaranteed by international law and guaranteed by divine laws.

Sinwar added that missiles are nothing but a means of forcing the enemy not to violate our sanctuaries.

The Turkish role

During his speech, Sinwar extended greetings, thanks and appreciation to Turkey, the people, the government and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for their continuous support to the Palestinian people.

“We feel that we and our Muslim brothers - and our Turkish brothers in particular - are one nation, we are one body, we are one cause, we are one, and our pain is one,” he said.

Sinwar added - during his speech - "I would love to reassure our people in Turkey about the people in Palestine, the resistance, and the martyr Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. We are a thousand good."

And he continued, "There is no doubt that the Turkish role is valued and we are following it up, observing it, respecting and appreciating it, and we thank it very much."

Arab and international solidarity

Sinwar talked about the broad state of solidarity with the Palestinians during the recent events and the aggression on Gaza.

“We feel today that we are not alone in Palestine, and al-Aqsa (the mosque) is not alone,” he said.

He added that our entire nation stood on one foot, and a massive uprising rose up to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to stand with Gaza and the Palestinian resistance in defense of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.

Sinwar pointed out that the Arab and Islamic peoples endowed with the gift of one man, and the Arab and Islamic masses began to pour out of the ring countries to break into the borders to enter Palestine.

"The free people in all capitals of the world started to take action, and millions began to rise up for this cause, the issue of truth, the Al-Aqsa Mosque and the holy sites," he said.

Sinwar continued, "We do not feel we are alone."

He added, however, that what they tried to promote was that the region had collapsed - because some countries went to normalize relations with the occupation - and that the Palestinian people are alone, and that the resistance is the only one.

Proved invalid during this confrontation.

At the end of his speech, Sinwar expressed his movement’s satisfaction with the state of unity among all components of Palestinian society that prevailed during the recent confrontation.
