The attack on the La Rambla promenade in Barcelona and the subsequent one on the nearby coastal town of Cambrils claimed 15 lives and injured more than 130 people.

On the afternoon of August 17, a 22-year-old man drove a van along touristy La Rambla, leaving behind lifeless bodies and panicked people.

The car drove more than 500 meters before it stopped and the driver fled.

He was shot dead by police a few days later.

Eight hours after the attack in Barcelona, an Audi A3 was driven into the pedestrians on the promenade in Cambrils, just over 120 km south of Barcelona. At least six people were injured, including a woman who later died. The five suspected terrorists in Cambrils were shot dead by police. The men wore bomb belts, which later turned out to be fake.
