Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry noted that the indicator of the total number of strategic offensive weapons allowed by the START Treaty was exceeded by the United States by 101 units.

“As for the START Treaty, the Russian side really has concrete and well-grounded claims to how Washington’s representatives are carrying it out.

However, this is not connected with the modernization of the nuclear complex, but with the refurbishment of a number of strategic offensive weapons undertaken by Washington, ”Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.

According to her, the work was carried out in such a way that does not allow the Russian side to make sure that these funds have lost the ability to be used for the use of nuclear weapons.

“And this is a requirement laid down in the contract.

We are striving for the American side to strictly comply with all provisions of the START Treaty, this work will be continued, ”the diplomat said.

In February, Russia and the United States began procedures to agree on a schedule of inspections and consultations under the extended Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.

On February 3, the Russian Foreign Ministry exchanged notes with the US Embassy on the completion of the internal procedures necessary for the entry into force of the agreement on the extension of the START Treaty.
