A boat carrying more than 160 people sank in a river flowing through Nigeria in West Africa, killing at least one person and leaving more than 140 missing.

According to AFP communications, a boat carrying more than 160 people broke and sank on the Niger River in northwestern Nigeria on the 26th.



So far, 22 people have been rescued, but one has died and more than 140 are missing.



According to the British public broadcaster BBC, the boat was carrying many women and children from neighboring Niger to northwestern Nigeria.



In addition, AFP news agency reported that more than 160 passengers were on board for a capacity of 80 people, which may have led to the accident.



In Nigeria, a boat capsized earlier this month, killing 30 people.
