China News Service, Beijing, May 26 (Reporter Chen Su) The reporter learned from the Chinese Ministry of Water Resources on the 26th that a new round of heavy rainfall will begin in the south on the 26th, and the flood situation is getting more and more severe.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Water Resources, a total of 61 rivers have occurred in 10 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) including Xiangjiang River in Hunan, Ganjiang River in Jiangxi, Qiantang River in Zhejiang, Minjiang River in Fujian, Beijiang River in Guangdong, and Guijiang River in Guangxi due to continuous heavy rainfall since May 19th. For floods above over-alarm, the maximum over-alarm range is 0.01 to 3.59 meters.

At present, the water level of the above-mentioned super-alert rivers has fallen below the alert level, and the water level of Poyang Lake is still fluctuating and rising slowly.

The meteorological department predicts that starting on the 26th, Jianghuai, Jiangnan and other places will start a new round of heavy rainfall.

The Ministry of Water Resources predicts that, affected by this, the main stream of the Yangtze River and the Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake systems, the Qiantang River in Zhejiang, the Minjiang River in Fujian, the Hongshui River in Guangxi, the Liujiang River, the Guijiang River, and the Wujiang River in Guizhou will experience significant water increases. Among them, the water level of Poyang Lake in Jiangxi may be over-alarm, and some small and medium-sized rivers in the rainstorm area may have over-alarm floods.

Affected by previous rainfall and flooding, the current water level of major rivers in the south is relatively high, and the possibility of flooding is increasing, and the flood situation is becoming increasingly severe.

On the same day, China held a flood control conference and dispatch meeting, connecting 15 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) including Zhejiang, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hunan, and Yunnan, emphasizing the timely release of early warning information, focusing on short-term nowcasting and early warning, and paying close attention to key points. Regional rain and water conditions, pay close attention to small and medium-sized rivers, small and medium-sized reservoirs, hidden danger points of mountain torrent geological disasters, and urban low-lying and flood-prone areas, and strengthen inspections and defenses in key areas.

At present, the Ministry of Water Resources has strengthened its 24-hour duty watch, closely monitoring rain and water conditions, and instructing the scientific dispatch of flood control projects in the southern region to ensure the safety of people’s lives.

In view of the high water level of Poyang Lake and heavy rainfall in the near future, the Ministry of Water Resources sent a working group to Jiangxi on the same day to guide the storm and flood defense work.
