May 26, 2021Slightly positive start for European markets.

The Milan Ftse Mib index, unchanged yesterday, rose by 0.04 percent.

In the rest of Europe, London + 0.09%, Frankfurt + 0.18%.

Rises overnight for the main Asian markets, starting from Tokyo (+ 0.31%) and Hong Kong (+ 0.69%).

Futures anticipating the opening of Wall Street are also positive, after yesterday's slight decline, linked to fears for inflation.

Yesterday the Case-Shiller Index, at its 15-year high, signaled that US house prices are rising more than expected.

But the US central bank, with its adviser Charles Evans, reassured, speaking of "misplaced" concerns.

The banking sector is under observation in Piazza Affari. Yesterday Unipol (today -0.77%), which is the largest shareholder of Bper Banca (-1.08%), announced an operation that would make the group the first shareholder of Banca Popolare di Sondrio (+1.9 %). This is a reverse accelerated book-building transaction.

If the operation were to go through, and there was a move towards a merger between Bper and Popolare di Sondrio, this is one of the hypotheses on the table, new scenarios would open up in the so-called banking risk.

There has been talk for weeks of a possible merger between Bper and Banco Bpm. If the hypothesis vanishes, the hypothesis of a union between Banco Bpm (today + 1.88%) and Unicredit (-0.66%) is strengthened. Today Mps also rises (+ 0.58%), which is also looking for a buyer, until now there has been talk of Unicredit.
