A 37-year-old Croatian truck driver was arrested on May 21 on the A36 between Besançon and Montbéliard by customs with 459 kg of herbal cannabis hidden under sandbags and boxes of paper towels.

That is a resale value of nearly two million euros, reports

L'Est Républicain

.

He appeared in court on Tuesday in Montbéliard.

The winding 5,000-kilometer route chosen, the presence of two mobile phones for which he refused to give the access codes, his inability to say precisely where he had loaded the goods and his destination did not convince the justice of his innocence.

He was finally sentenced to four years in prison with continued detention, two fines totaling 1,500 euros to which should be added that of the customs administration and which should correspond to the market value of the drug.
