The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, sent a written message to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, related to bilateral relations and ways to support and develop them.

The message was delivered by Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, when Sisi received him today, Tuesday, in Cairo.

The meeting was attended from Egypt by Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, head of General Intelligence, Abbas Kamel, as well as the head of the Qatari State Security Service, Abdullah Al-Khulaifi.

The presidential statement stated that the Qatari Foreign Minister, who arrived on a two-day visit, conveyed to the Egyptian President a written message from the Emir of the State of Qatar.

The message included expressing aspiration to enhance discussions between the two countries on ways to develop bilateral relations, as well as discuss developments in regional and international situations, and coordinate positions regarding them, in a way that serves the aspirations of the two countries.

Earlier today, Egypt and Qatar agreed, after a meeting between the two countries' foreign ministers, to develop bilateral relations and enhance the positive progress they are witnessing, following the agreement of the Al-Ula Summit in January 2021.

"Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received today, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, at Tahrir Palace (the headquarters of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in central Cairo)," said Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

He added - in a statement published by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on its official Facebook page - that the two parties stressed the importance of building on that step by taking more measures to enhance the positive atmosphere, noting that the talks touched on the importance of working to benefit from the economic and investment opportunities available in the two countries.

According to the Egyptian statement, the talks also dealt with ways to advance the mechanisms of joint Arab action, as well as regional issues, such as the developments of the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam file.

On Monday, the Qatari foreign minister began a two-day visit to Cairo, heading a delegation from Sudan.

During the past two days, he visited Libya and Sudan, and held talks with officials in the two countries.

On January 5, the Gulf summit announced from Saudi Arabia a reconciliation to end a severe political crisis, which began in June 2017, during which Cairo, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Manama cut their relations with Doha.

Last March, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar visited the Egyptian capital, for the first time since mid-2017.

And before that, on February 23, two official delegations from Qatar and Egypt held talks in Kuwait on joint mechanisms and procedures for implementing reconciliation.

Since the announcement of the reconciliation, Cairo and Doha have praised, on more than one occasion, the development of relations between them.
